Privacy

Last updated 18 August 2026. The canonical address for this policy is playfore.app/privacy.

The short version. There is no account, no advertising and no sale of data. Your swing is read on the phone and your shot history never leaves it. What we do receive is a small set of anonymous product events, so we can tell whether the game works for people who are not us.

FORE is a golf game you play by swinging your iPhone. It is made by Richard Deetlefs, as an individual. This page is the whole policy.

What stays on your phone

Motion sensors — the gyroscope and accelerometer — are read while you swing, so the game can tell how hard you swung and whether the club face was open or closed at contact. That raw motion is used on the device and is not sent anywhere.

Your shot history is saved only on the device. Deleting the app deletes it. We cannot read it from here.

We never receive the picture of a screenshot or a screen recording. iOS does not give apps the image.

What we collect

To understand whether people enjoy FORE — how often they come back, how much they play, and what they bother to capture — the app sends anonymous events to PostHog, hosted in the European Union.

Each install gets a random identifier created on the phone. It is not your name, email, Apple ID or advertising identifier, and it cannot be used to contact you. The events are:

We do not collect location, contacts, photos, microphone audio, payment details or an advertising ID. We do not track you across other companies’ apps or websites. We do not sell data.

Why

Product analytics only: to see downloads turning into play, day-1 and day-7 return, how many shots people actually hit, and whether a great shot is something people capture. That is how we decide what to improve. The shot numbers also keep the swing feel honest as more people play — the game is tuned on real swings, and only one person’s swings were available to tune it on at first.

Who sees it

Richard Deetlefs. The events are processed by PostHog (EU cloud). They are not used to advertise to you and are not sold. Apple also receives the crash and download figures that come with any App Store app.

How long

Events are kept only as long as they are useful for understanding the game, and no longer than 24 months. You can stop new events by deleting the app. Because there is no account, we cannot look up “your” events on request — we never knew who you were.

This website

playfore.app is a set of static files. There is no analytics script, no cookie and no third-party embed — the fonts, images and video are all served from this domain. The host records standard server logs.

Children

FORE does not target children and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
